Foodies in and around Dublin, CA rejoice. The Gourmet Food Truck Festival will be paying Alameda Fairgrounds in Pleasanton a return visit on Saturday, October 15th from 4:00PM to 8:00PM. Admission is $3 for adults and free for children. For those who missed this highly popular even the first time back in mid-September, here is the chance to experience what people have been buzzing about first-hand. The festival is organized by The Mobile Gourmet.

The Mobile Gourmet is the brainchild of Jill Horn and Lorring Jones, two local women who retired early from their high-tech careers to follow their true passion in life. The mission of this lean startup is to introduce the joys of the urban food truck phenomenon to the suburbs throughout the Bay Area.

Acccording to Jill Horn, chief marketing officer of The Mobile Gourmet, the Saturday event will have Nom Nom, Chairman Bao, and 20 other beloved food trucks. The number of vendors expected at this festival will help shorten the lines and diversify the menu. For those who are new to the gourmet food truck movement, the video below by the wonderful folks at the Nom Nom Truck should help explain why mobile kitchens like theirs are commanding such devotion from a growing legion of fans.

Fans of The Amazing Race in and around Dublin, CA are rooting for the Tri-Valley’s very own Sandy Draghi and Jeremy Cline, who are currently competing on the 19th season of this popular unscripted competition show on CBS. Sandy is a 33-year-old nurse practitioner from Dublin, and her boyfriend Jeremy is a 35-year-old commercial real estate broker from Alamo. They are one of two “dating” couples competing for the $1M grand prize.

Peter Crooks, senior editor of Diablo magazine, will be featured on Public Radio International’s acclaimed documentary program This American Life. The program will air Diablo’s inside story of Concord-based private investigator Chris Butler and his now-infamous efforts to get a reality TV series, as well as the shocking police corruption connection to this wild and scandalous story. Peter Crooks, who had been writing a feature about Butler’s detective firm, was tipped to the illegal drug deals by an anonymous source. Crooks helped the source get to the Department of Justice and go undercover, which led to the arrest of Butler and Norman Wielsch, the commander of the Contra Costa County Narcotic Enforcement Team (CNET). Both individuals could face more than 25 years in prison for the 28 felony counts they have each been charged with. The charges include selling methamphetamine, anabolic steroids, and marijuana.

Third Annual Valley Blues Festival an East Bay Cultural Event

The Rotary Club of Castro Valley, with the help of other service organizations and local East Bay merchants, will once again be staging the Valley Blues Festival. This year’s event will take place on Saturday, September 17th, from noon to 7PM at the Rowell Ranch Rodeo Grounds, halfway between Castro Valley and Dublin, CA. Gates will open at 11AM. The festival highlights local blues musicians in a casual atmosphere and combines it with other outdoor activities to make it a great afternoon outing for blues fans of all ages.

Adults can sip on beer or wine as they listen to slow-handed licks from a trio of veteran bands. The Daniel Castro Band jams through a catalog of original tunes and classic covers, and sounds from local act The SolMates encourage a variety of dance styles including swing, funk, samba, and solo conga lines. Georgi and the Rough Week‘s lead singer belts brassy notes reminiscent of classic female crooners to fuel songs with emotion.

Making this truly a community event, the Rotary Club of Castro Valley has invited Save Our Schools Castro Valley and the Castro Valley Sports Foundation to provide the food services for this year’s Valley Blues Festival. Save Our Schools Castro Valley will be partnering up with Don Jose’s Mexican Restaurant once again.
