Apple to cut production of iPhone 14 Plus

Apple is planning to cut the production of the recently launched iPhone 14 Plus on the grounds of poor demand and hiked prices for the smartphone components. Although there is not any official announcement from Apple yet, many sources have reported that Apple has actively reached out to its production units to cut down the production of the iPhone 14 Plus. Many sources have also stated that the company has also ordered an increase in the production of iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. It has also been reported that Apple is planning to halt the production of smartphone components by almost 90%.  The iPhone 14 Plus, the bigger model of the basic iPhone 14, was launched along with the other iPhones from the 14 lineup. But being a first generation plus iPhone, Apple made it available for purchase a little later than the other iPhones. The iPhone 14, 14 Pro, and 14 Pro Max were available to purchase from Sep 16, 2022. But the iPhone 14 Plus went on sale on Oct 7, 2022, almost two weeks later. The only USP for the iPhone 14 Plus is that it has a 6.7-inch display and a bigger battery of 4323 mAh. The regular iPhone 14 has a 6.1-inch display and a 3279 mAh battery. The iPhone 14 Plus comes with a price tag of $899 and iPhone 14 comes with a price tag of $799. Now, according to the sources, the reason behind Apple’s decision to cut down the production of the iPhone 14 Plus was due to its lackluster demand. The lackluster demand for iPhone 14 Plus can be explained by its being in the middle position. For the price tag of $899, iPhone 14 Plus offers only a bigger display and a bigger battery. The iPhone 14 on the other hand comes at $799 and provides similar features with a slightly smaller display and battery, making it an affordable iPhone. Another downside for iPhone 14 Plus is that the pro model in the 14 lineup, iPhone 14 Pro comes with the price tag of $999 while offering a new design with a pill-shaped display cutout, dynamic island for better notification management, and an updated camera sensor of 48MP with promotion technology. So for people who are looking to invest in an iPhone, iPhone 14 is an affordable option and the iPhone 14 Pro is a much more practical version. Because of this, the demand for iPhone 14 Plus has been extremely low since its launch. Even smartphone reviewers have stated that iPhone 14 Plus is not a good deal for the price you are paying.  Growing inflation, chip shortage, and the hike in the production cost of smartphone components are also expected reasons behind Apple’s decision of cutting down the iPhone 14 Plus production. Many companies have increased the pricing for their existing phones in the market to manage profits during the period of inflation. Samsung, Motorola, Xiaomi, etc. have all increased the prices for their best-selling smartphones as a result of inflation. Chip shortage has also impacted the smartphone industry, increasing the prices of upcoming smartphones. Because of inflation, people are also looking to lower their overall spending on luxury items.
